Who We Are

We're a grassroots organization dedicated to promoting Bitcoin and freedom technology in the District of Columbia.

About Us

The District Bitcoin Initiative sprang from a passion for grassroots education, striving to make Bitcoin clear and approachable for everyone in the Washington, DC area. While policy advocacy and corporate education play key roles in the District, we’re all about connecting with the community—reaching people and small businesses where they are, and breaking down Bitcoin’s complexities to show its value and real-world uses. Fueled by the energy of DC’s thriving Bitcoin scene, we’re crafting a lasting platform as a nonprofit to grow these efforts, inspiring more people to dive into the Bitcoin ecosystem and nurturing a community that’s both welcoming and well-informed.

Our Mission

To transform DC into a thriving Bitcoin hub by providing accessible education and resources that empower individuals to achieve economic empowerment and personal sovereignty through Bitcoin and freedom technologies.

Our Values

  • Empowerment through Education: Knowledge is the foundation of freedom. By providing accessible, inclusive educational programs on Bitcoin and freedom technology, we empower individuals and communities to achieve self-sovereignty and confidently navigate the digital age.

  • Advocacy for Personal Sovereignty: We champion individual autonomy and self-determination. Through Bitcoin and privacy-preserving technologies, we promote tools that enable people to control their own financial and digital lives, free from centralized control or surveillance.

  • Commitment to Privacy: Privacy is a cornerstone of freedom. We advocate for and educate about open-source, privacy-focused technologies that protect personal data and foster trust, ensuring individuals can engage in a secure and decentralized digital ecosystem.

  • Community-Driven Collaboration: We foster a collaborative, inclusive community that brings people together to learn, share, and grow. By hosting workshops, seminars, and public gatherings, we build strong local networks in our own backyard, uniting diverse voices in support of Bitcoin and freedom.

  • Principled Innovation: We are committed to the responsible use of Bitcoin and open-source technologies. Our initiatives emphasize transparency, integrity, and accessibility, ensuring our educational efforts and community outreach uphold the values of decentralization and public good.
